Her family holds the belief that magic is for servants, as one should always conserve their natural power, so they never used any magic themselves. Her natural aptitute was therefore very low, but there were enough wizards using basic maintenance spells around their home that she got interested and started learning from one of her aides when she was still fairly young. Against her mother's will, Finella went to magic school as a teenager.
